1. RAFFEL DRAWING Drawing done see
raffle calendar. One check will be written and given to school’s bookkeeper, to
disperse funds. Hand out for raffle ticket incentive distribution received.
2. PRESIDENT’S
REPORT JANICE
SCHMITT
Extends a
warm welcome to the 2004-05 school year. Rockford Register Star will do the “ We Got Spirit,” contest, last year we took 2nd
place, it starts this week. Will ask Mrs. Wilson if the
Special Ed. students can help out with the cutting and filling out of papers,
Mrs. Wilson in agreement with this. Two meetings we held over the summer
to put in financial controls. This year
the board will man a button booth near the Left Bank to raise funds. Volunteers
are in place for registration.

4. ATHLETIC

9th preseason fall sports went very well, coaches were very pleased.
Nov 1st will be preseason meeting for winter sports and February 28th
spring. It was difficult getting information out to the incoming freshman, if
they did not attend the summer camps.
Students who receive free or reduced lunch will get a sports waiver so
some of the fees collected will be refunded after registration. For the parents who chose to sell sports
cards, they wrote a check and when sports cards are sold their check will be
returned, however sports cards are not in yet.
They were expected to be in last Thursday, however they have not been
printed and Beef -A -Roo is not on the card this year..
Looking into putting up a wall of fame in the gym costing
$400 - $500. Trophies have been cleaned, repaired and placed in showcase
where people can see them. Red &
Black will be 8/20 at 7p.m concessions would be helpful at this event. NIC 9
games will be $4 for adults $2 for children for Var/Soph games. Freshman games
will cost $2 for adults and $1 for children. Board members expressed a wish to
see more of Auburn Athletics mentioned in the paper for prep athletic week/
scholar athletics recognized by the media.
Agrees and will assist the board by giving them the names of these
athletics. Interviewed a young lady, former Auburn Graduate for cheerleading
coach, will know Thursday if she accepts the position she’s on vacation. Has hired 7 new coaches and only has 3 - 4
positions open in softball.

EQUIPMENT
LETTERS He has been working on
getting wireless head communication devices for the coaches. Letters are currently ready to be sent out
seeking donations. Two letters have
already gone out.
6. FINANCIAL REQUEST
I. JAY HURDER - Rug for student office.
Not present, however a letter was sent
requesting the board to grand $220 - $350 to buy a rug for the student
office. Mrs. Wilson commented that a
nice logo rug would add to the attractiveness of the office. II.
CHURCH/GANO - Cross-country; coaches requesting the board to help them purchase
heart monitors for the boys and girls teams to share. Total cost $840 for 10 monitors and the team
will pay half. These monitors are used
by other competitive teams and will help monitor athletics performance and
build up their endurance in a healthy environment. III. JIM VALENTINE - Golf; Not Present
7. DISCUSSIONS & VOTING I. Bylaws state a request must be made in
person. Request denied all in favor with no opposes. II. Motion to give cross-country $440
to purchase heart monitors made by Jude M. 2nd by Randy W. Motion
passes with all in favor and no opposes.
8. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT KRISTIN
WILSON
Staffing is at it’s best this
year; we only have 4 positions open.
She’s very pleased with test scores but can not go into details until
after Aug. 18th. She did share that scores have improved and are
above state & national averages in composite. Question asked about how many teaches will be
coming up for retirement. Mrs. Wilson will retire next school year along with 14
other staff members, which include teaches, councilors.
9. PARENT OPEN HOUSE/
GRANT VICKI BENSEN
Auburn and East received the “Smaller Learning
Communities Grant, “ worth ˝ million dollars; handouts
were available explaining the grant.
This money is seed money to make this program self-sufficient over the
next 3 years. It was revealed 48% to 60% of freshman would never graduate and
31% to 46% sophomores with minority ranging 36% to 56%. So
freshman will be teamed with core teachers for 2 years, approx. 122 students
per team. They will develop a
personalized learning plan that involves staff, student, parents and the
community. The students will develop a
portfolio for future references. Honors
and general ed. students will be teamed together, academy will continue as
is. These “Small Learning Communities”
will team up with The Discovery Center to integrate the science
curriculum. Students that are motivated
and independent enough will be offered off site school only retuning to Auburn
for electives, teaches input will be a big factor in this..
Algebra 1 & 2 will be taught not 1A- 1B & 2A - 2B. Tutors will be in
the classrooms.
10. CONCESSIONS VALSHERIA LANGLEY
Still
need help with the RED & BLACK 8/20 at 5p.m. Parents were asked to help at
the gate Booster Club can do concession, pop, popcorn and candy. Volunteer’s
names were written down. Sign up to help
at the football games will be out at registration. In need of a grill master, the name of Mike
Pelcher was given. She will also need help with meat delivery seeing that she
works and can only be here on her lunch break. Rudy offered to help on his
lunch when need. She will look into it and also check out SAM’S.
11. ON
THE WATERFRONT/ GINA BOETTCHER
SPIRIT
WARE / SPORTS BOTTONS $1,082.00 in spirit ware and membership
so far. Athletic Director assured us that VIP would have the athletic pictures
to us before 1st game, 2 each. Will have a table
at RED & BLACK. Fall Registration volunteers have been notified of
work times by e-mail. Will send out work time’s confirmations
for the ON THE WATERFRONT button booth. Buttons will be available for
workers to purchase at a discounted price.
