AUBURN BOOSTER CLUB MEETING

1. PRESIDENT’S REPORT JANICE * Meeting called to order, motion made that March minutes be accepted with necessary correction. May 18th during 4th & 5th hours will be the crash reenactment. Wondering if the media should be contacted. Mrs Wilson will have some one do this possibly Phil. Renaissance Moon Light Bowling April 30th. Sweat Shirts in for pick -up.
2. TREASURE’S REPORT KATHRYN *NO REPORT.
3. HAC Jude Makulec *There are some policy changes. Teachers cannot drive students anywhere. Scholar’s Diploma voted on. The question now is how to implement, should it be retroactive, it is to be offered to incoming freshman. The school board always makes an effort to thank Auburn for the great job recording meetings. Meeting with Martha Hayes on May 5th about current A/P students. A/P classed will be weighted grades. A/P students will need to take a proficiency test in order to pass. Students will need to pay for the test it still needed to be decided if free & reduced lunch students will need to pay. In order to be considered for valedictorian students must be in the A/P or honors courses. Meeting with Bob Evans on April 27th at Rockford College who will speak on educating students.
4. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Mrs. Wilson * Some changes in dates. Senior will be in school on 4/27 & 28 originally they were to be out due to testing but now Dr. Thompson has decided that all students should be in school so there will be some type of activity scheduled for them that day. Juniors will take the ACT/PASE test in the gym. Big discussion on noise level with the floor and open area for testing. Mrs. Wilson assured board that they are working to get covering for the floor, 7 petition dividers, as well as they will continue to investigate other testing area, but since the seniors are in the building and other special accommodations need to be made for special ed they are limited on space. The busing will remain the same. Suggestions made to put the seniors or freshmen in the gym. There are too many freshmen. May 13th will be a regular day of school. NO SIP DAY. Students can take college days if excused by parents. Mr Vogt is looking for community volunteers to help with doing internal reviews for the North Central Accreditation. Margie Anderson is the Chairperson. If board knows of any one he's asking that you call him at ext 268 or email vogted@205.com. SIP-we are still working on our template. Usually our peer reviews it (another high school) last year it was Guilford and Auburn reviewed theirs. Janice emailed me about fundraising is there anything policy. Only found the one about student fundraising needs to go through administration emailed Dr. Thompson about the calendar raffle fundraiser waiting on a response. Class of '85 wants to donate a gift to the school about $200-$300 any suggestion. Board made suggestions, plaque, back up light bulb for out front or the rug Jay mentioned earlier in the year. Mamie, one of the custodians, will be retiring if the board wants to participate in this. All custodians will be done June 10th. Some incoming freshmen still need to be registered and counselors are going to the schools to do this. There is a committee for new principal not sure who it will be they did narrow it down. There are 8 candidates and Dr. Thompson will decide.
5. ATHLETIC DIRECTOR TERRY NIEDZWIECKI * Discussion on Banquet invitation. Sample passed out. Board gave there input and suggestion noted. Will check with Fred on printing approx. 135 needed. Plaques will be red & black costing about $10 -$12. Formal attire, invitations to go out in mid-May per mail. Dinner to be pasta buffet.
6. STEVEN
MORROW NAVAL DAS CADET CORPS Present
with wife and son who are also involved with the program, SEA CADETS. This
program is offered to youth between ages of 13 - 17. Meetings will take place
at East High School starting May 7th. There is a fee for uniforms and dues. It
teaches and trains around the Navy concepts and the training will help if
interested in pursuing career in this area.
Program worked great in the Chicago area. Program new to the Rockford
area, working on advertisement and scholarship offers. The Board will post info
about the program on it's web site and will pass info. along to ROTC.
7. PATRICIA KEATING COUNCIL ON ALCOHOLISM & DRUG DEPENDENCY presented hand outs on the foundation and explained that they promote public knowledge and support about issues concerning these issues and the foundation is willing to help the board and school if needed. They are also looking for volunteers and a core group of students to work with the foundation. She is willing to work with the school (health classes Mrs. Wilson will let teachers know), She has worked with the Monarch House girls. Board will post info about this program on its web site.
8. SPORTS BANQUET KATHRYN CURRAN * NO REPORT
9. CALANDAR RAFFLE JANICE SCHMITT *August 1st through December 17th tickets
will be on sale.
10. BOARD NOMINATIONS MAUREEN HARGROVE *There are 12 members and 4 officers. There are 5 openings spoke with J. Bradley, S. Schwartz, B. Niven, S. Jenkins. Discussions on how many members are needed. By-Laws say 15 different members. Board of Directors can be 3-12 members. If anyone can think of anybody call or e-mail Maureen.
