AUBURN BOOSTER CLUB MEETING

December 13, 2005 6:00 pm

Auburn High School Teachers Lounge

MEMBERS PRESENT: Gina Boettcher, Georgia Bubert, Maureen Hargrove, Jude Makulec, Bettie Marshall, Janice Schmitt, Connie Spoden, Pam Wilson, Barbara Niven, Sonia Jenkins, Randy Wilt and Pat Sowell.

ADMINISTRATION PRESENT: Terry Niedzwicki, John Stewart.

MEETING MINUTES: Meeting Minutes of November 14, 2005 were approved.

OFFICERS: Pat Sowell will replace Kathryn as the club’s Treasurer. Barbara Niven will fill in as Secretary until Marilyn Hite-Ross returns.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Pat Sowell submitted and explained Profit & Loss and Balance Sheets to the members which included sub-accounts for the period of June through November, 2005.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT: The President received a request from the library asking the Booster Club to purchase specialty encyclopedias. The President informed the librarian that our policy for making such requests would need to be followed. Theatre booklets, for which the Booster Club donated funds to assist with the cost of postage, were mailed to all Auburn parents. November Market Day sales are significantly down as compared to November 2004. Orders placed online must specify Auburn’s profit code 6971 for Auburn to receive the profit. Janice Schmitt will obtain exact instructions as to how to place the orders and forward same to the club members and others. The Booster Club was to be featured in the centerfold of the Fall Newsletter but instead our ad was placed on the third to the last page. Principal Hawkins asked the Booster Club to cover half the cost for the faculty Christmas party (approximately $500). It was agreed that the Booster Club would not fund any money for this event; instead members were asked to bring baked goods to the faculty lounge on Friday, December 16, 2005.

CALENDAR RAFFLE REPORT: Janice Schmitt submitted a Calendar Raffle Activity Report to the members which indicates 751 tickets as having been sold and an additional $10,208 needed to break even on costs, commissions and prize money. An additional 180+ sold tickets were turned in during today’s meeting. Prior media interviews have generated some sales and an ad will be placed in the Rockford Register Star and distributed to the 61107 and 61103 zip codes. Persons selling tickets will be contacted via e-mail and telephone to remind them to turn in sold tickets. Teachers will be reminded via a note/flyer in their mailbox. Terry Niedzwicki will remind the coaches to turn in their tickets during their upcoming holiday party. Concern was expressed as to coaches who returned all their tickets unsold.

SPIRITWEAR REPORT: Spiritwear sold during the last two Girls Varsity Basketball games has been between $100.00 and $150.00 per game. Photo buttons have sold remarkably well.

ATHLETIC DIRECTOR’S REPORT: John Stewart was introduced and informed us as to the condition of the school’s diving board which he believes has been in use for approximately 42 years. Comparatively, other schools in the state that sponsor diving competitions regularly replace their boards every five years. The board has fine cracks and the finish is worn offering no traction at the end of the board which he feels is a potential hazard. Other coaches have expressed an interest in having the upcoming diving competition moved to another school due to the condition of Auburn’s diving board. He estimates replacement costs to be approximately $2,282 for the board and $5,000 for the base. It was suggested that equipment such as this, which appears to be a safety hazard, should be replaced by the school board. Mr. Stewart informed us that a request was made to the school board approximately ten years ago but was denied. Another request will be submitted to the school board to replace this equipment.

Auburn is hosting the Regional Basketball Tournament February 27th and 28th and March 1st and 3rd. The Annual Sports Banquet will be held sometime in June 2006. Athletic Directors visited all but one middle school to discuss the district’s 2.0 grade point average requirement to participate in sports. One thousand four hundred students were ineligible to play sports this year. Dr. Thompson is considering a proposal to lower the standard to a 1.5 grade point average as a high percentage of these students would have been eligible if the standard was lowered to a 1.5.

FUNDRAISING EFFORTS: It was suggested that we may want to consider sponsoring a casual dance for the students if we can get administration to participate.

MEETING WAS ADJOURNED: 7:20 pm
