AUBURN BOOSTER CLUB MINUTES - February 13, 2006

 

Present for the meeting were Gina Boettcher, Maureen Hargrove, Janice Hawkins, Carol Kloppmann, Valsheria Langley, Jude Majulec, Terry Niedziewecki, Barbara Niven, Jeff Polsean, Jill Polsean, Marilyn Ross, Janice Schmitt, Petrinella Sowell, Connie Spoden, Pam Wilson, and Randy Wilt.

 

Principal’s Report:  A scholarship list was handed out to those in attendance.  The scheduling for fall enrollment was discussed.  There will be representatives from all of Auburn’s academic programs on hand to answer questions.  The seven career pathways will be the focus as well as dual credit courses at Rock Valley Community College. The plan will be to offer more smaller learning community teams in the future.  With a prospective grant Auburn will be able to offer AP courses every year and extend AP Government and Microeconomics.

 

Ms. Hawkins also shared an ACT study, “On Course for Success” which consisted of a study of ten high schools throughout the country, which looked at the correlation between courses taken, and scores earned on the ACT test in English, Math, and Science.  Auburn and Evanston Township High School were the only Illinois high schools included in the study.

 

The staff evaluation process was shared including new high school planning guide, zero hour classes and syllabus requirements for staff.  Ingersol after school employment and summer employment was discussed.  Counselors submitted student nominations and Ms. Hawkins will make the final determination.

 

Scholastic bowl team placed third out of 794 teams in nation.  The students will compete at all state.  The district is looking to implement a “Physics First Program, a pilot program in 2006-07 targeting students not ready for biology.  Japanese will be offered in the fall of 2006-07.  Concerns were raised over the district’s failure to continue offering four years of a foreign language for students who start a language as a freshman so that they can fulfill the college foreign language requirement.

 

Treasurer’s Report:  The total income to date is $43, 407. 40.  Options for Northwest Bank accounts will be discussed at a later date.

 

President’s Report:  The approval of disbursements for Doug Hoffman (band) was $650, Coach Lowe (track) $5301.50, swim team (diving board) $2,282, and Library $1500.  The Booster Club scholarship applications are currently available.  Mr. Auburn Knight might be rescheduled or moved to West Middle School.  The raffle net profit thus far $11,623.  The library wish list will be reviewed at a later date.

 

Concessions:  There has been a problem with theft.  Corrective measures were discussed.  Also, volunteers were solicited for the regional basketball games.

 

Athletic Director:  Pre-season night will be Feb. 22, 2006.  Picture day will be Mar. 17, 2006.  On Feb. 24, 2006, which is senior night, Stephanie Baliga scheduled to be recognized.  There will also be recognition of the wrestling students qualifying for the sectionals.  It was noted that senior night would conflict will the RAMM Scholarship banquet in which several auburn seniors will be recipients.  The director will secure pricing on equipment for weight room and there will be a network with others.  All coaching positions have been filled with the exception of volleyball.  Proceeds from the dance (2-24-06) will be donated to the athletic department for sports equipment.

Volunteers will sell wristbands during lunch Feb. 22, 23, & 24.  Prior ticket prices $3 and tickets at the door will be $5.

 

Former booster club treasurer Kathryn Curran is recovering from surgery.  Members were encouraged by the president to offer support.
